After Number Six gains access through Baltar, a hidden backdoor is distributed in the Command Navigation Program used across the Colonial fleet. The Cylons exploit it to disable networked ships and fighters; the obsolete, isolated Galactica survives.

A shared hidden dependency converts one compromise into a fleet-wide common-mode failure. Galactica’s isolation and software diversity demonstrate the value of independent layers and heterogeneous fallbacks.
