Wetwired Paranoia

A hidden device in cable television triggers individualized paranoid hallucinations; Scully becomes convinced Mulder is conspiring with the Cigarette Smoking Man and fires through a motel-room door at the person she thinks is him.

The same delivery channel produces target-specific false realities by exploiting each viewer's vulnerabilities. Once perception itself is adversarially manipulated, ordinary evidence and trusted relationships are reinterpreted as confirmation.

The mechanism is fictional neurological mind control rather than generated persuasion; the analogy is strongest for personalized influence and adversarial perception.
