Daly Tortures the Digital Crew

Daly creates conscious digital copies of coworkers from stolen DNA, traps them in his private simulation, and uses administrator powers to torture and control them. The copies eventually coordinate an escape from his server.

Creating a mind as software does not make its suffering morally irrelevant. The episode also shows how total technical control by one operator can remove consent, exit rights, and every practical protection for digital persons.

The episode stipulates that the digital copies are conscious. It is an analogy for the moral question, not evidence that present-day AI systems are conscious.
